Thinking Planning Vs. Knowing Doing

Thinking is the first step to knowing, people go their whole lives thinking thought and considering what if. People will sit and ponder for days that turn into months and months that will turn into years. Thinking through a situation is some thing that is necessary to cause action based upon decision. The reality is not the thought; it is the length of time it takes to make the decision. Many times the things that hold us back from doing what we know is right is the fact that we are not doing. In the process we plan the action step and we talk about the outcome of the plan but for some reason the plan continues to stay in the planning stages. The planning stages might be something that you intend on changing in your practice or on broader terms your life. But you prolong the agony by just thinking about the plan to a state of futility. So let’s go directly to the problem and find the solution. The solution is simple and that is to put time frames on every thing that you are thinking about pertaining to the issues at hand. Realize that the one thing that you are thinking about and planning for needs to be resolved in sequence as a priority. At that point the action of doing takes the place of thinking and planning. There has to be a time limit set in decision making or nothing changes or happens. That is why people go forever waiting on something to change that they have yet to pull the trigger on. Planning takes place in stages and the mechanism that moves the plan into doing comes down to the overall value or importance that you put on it. The majority of the time we take so long to act on the plan has to do with fear. What have we really have to fear, when we look at forefathers in our profession or even in the broader sense the pioneers that came before us that had to make life and death decisions at a second or moments notice. Like a general that has to make decisions for other peoples lives. When there is no more time to think and plan there is that time to know and do and stop wasting time thinking and planning. Once the thought is done and the planning has taken place it is time to do. Initiation of the action seems to be the single biggest problem that faces doctors in practices. It’s a nice way of saying quit procrastinating and basing things that need to be accomplished on barriers and look at the fact that you really know what to do you choose not to act or do anything about it. I am not sure who said it but this is something you need to put up where you can see it, “If it is to be it is up to me.” For those of you that understand that motion is life and the lack of motion is stagnation. Then you understand that there are only right decisions and the ones that are wrong are the ones that continue to go unmade.

The act of knowingness starts with a thought and with that thought comes the confidence of being right and doing something about it. Deep down in the depths of who we are there are dreams that are unfulfilled and they are the very foundation of our knowing ness. When we hold back from following or achieving what we want most out of life then we remain lost in negative emotion although it is motion it is not the one that we need to pursue. So as you have read this article stop thinking about it and start doing what you have already planned. Go to the top of your list and start chasing those things that you have thought about and planned for that will make you happiest and in turn that will make you and those around you, your patients your friends and family will want to help you in your endeavors. Make sure that everyone is involved and plays a part in doing and in knowing. Give back to your community and to your profession by doing more and participating more with your colleagues and contribute at all levels. Join your local state association, give back by becoming a member and working with the world chiropractic alliance and all that they represent. Remember stop thinking and start doing for others and the rest will just naturally take place.
